What is avionics?

Avionics is a specific field of engineering that deals with aircraft electronic equipment including but not limited to:

  • engine controls
  • flight control systems
  • glass cockpit navigation
  • communications
  • flight recorders
  • lighting systems
  • fuel systems
  • electro-optic (EO/IR) systems
  • weather radar

Avionics technicians

Century Avionics’ technicians, mechanics and engineers are responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair and installation of electronic equipment on helicopters, business jets and other aircraft. Diagnostic tests are run on the equipment on-board and occasionally repairs need to be made at a workbench.

This is a job that requires an exact attention to detail. Some complex components call for high-precision techniques and tools, such as working with circuit boards and soldering microelements. It generally also runs on tight deadlines to ensure aircraft aren’t out of service for extended periods.

The authority on avionics

Century Avionics provides a range of avionic upgrade solutions for fixed- and rotor wing glass cockpits in particular backed by premium avionics manufacturers including Garmin, BendixKing, Honeywell, Avidyne, McMurdo ELT, Genesys Aerosystems and many more. We also provide training to our clients when their systems are upgraded to ensure they can confidently operate the equipment while flying.
