The GDC31 Roll Steering Converter is designed to receive data from a GPS Navigation System to produce an analog Roll Sum Steering (RSS) signal. With this installed, the pilot will be able to select between heading mode and GPS mode by using the switch / annunciator. In heading mode the autopilot will track the heading bug, but when in GPS mode the GDC31 will drive the autopilots heading channel. Calculating the correct course intercept angle from the data supplied by the GPS and using this to smoothly guide the aircraft onto the course.
When a flight plan is selected on the GPS, the GDC31 will calculate the new intercept angle at each waypoint change, smoothly intercepting and holding the new course automatically without the need of the pilot intervening.
The GDC31 is designed to operate with both rate based and position based autopilots.
